DONATION to HEARING EAR DOGS

Quota International of Barrie is going for the dogs. Hearing ear dogs that is. We continue to support the training of a hearing ear dog by donating half the proceeds from our Christmas Bazaar to this very worthy cause. This tops up the $4000 contribution made in February of 2007 to the Lions Foundation of Canada, “DOGGUIDES".

Our members actually met Mecca, a student, along with Rhonda Workman, her trainer. Hearing ear dogs perform every day tasks for their owners that you and I take for granted. They “hear” signals like the door bell, telephone, smoke alarm, and oven timer and advise their masters accordingly. It’s obvious that a dog like Mecca is invaluable to a hearing impaired individual trying to deal with our hectic, noisy world.

PROJECTS

SENIORS’ PICNIC - This much anticipated event in May sees residents of Barrie and area nursing homes congregate at the South Shore Community Centre overlooking Kempenfelt Bay to enjoy a ‘picnic’ dinner created by Quota members and to celebrate life with music and even some dancing. They return home with a smile and a gift and so does our membership

CELEBRATE BARRIE - People from everywhere join us at Centennial Park to celebrate Barrie . This day in June is all about ‘the kids’ and sharing their smiles and laughter. Quota provides craft paper with glue and buttons and stickers and sparkles and... you know, for the children (young and old) to create and take home.

HEALTHY HEARING CAMPAIGN - In May, 2007 we launched our campaign and have been distributing ‘earplugs’ and educational information at events in Barrie. It was gratifying to 'Greet and Give' at Georgian Mall in Barrie.

IZZY DOLLS - Children the world over can say 'Izzy'. Member Nancy B. knit each and every one of these colourful 'little people' dolls. The dolls are easily stuffed in the pockets of our Canadian soldiers and given to children they meet in foreign lands during their peacekeeping efforts. See link to memorial Isford site for Izzy doll pattern in Canada Area - Area Committees and Meetings.

QUOTA CARING HEARTS - Heart shaped pillows are donated to breast cancer patients through the Oncology Department of our Royal Victoria Hospital.
