Quota International Incorporated, a classified Women’s Service Organization, was formed in the United States on February 6th, 1919.
To provide geographical “togetherness” for local clubs, as well as incentives to develop programs with a common interest, the first District was incorporated in West Virginia in March, 1929 and the first in Canada, District Eleven, in 1936. District 11 covers the Western Provinces. At an annual conference, a District Governor and a Lieutenant Governor are elected, and a Secretary-Treasurer is appointed.
Quota International developed the “Shatter Silence” program, which is service to those with hearing and speech losses, and educators in the field. For many years District Eleven has provided a scholarship.
In recent years Quota International has in addition to the service of deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech impaired individuals, added service to disadvantaged women and children.
In 1979, the second year of Quota International Deaf Woman of the Year Award, District Eleven’s candidate, Angela Petrone, was the winner. She was an outstanding young woman and now is Angela Petrone Stratiy with three sons. She has an extensive background as an educator and remains in touch with us.
On Local, District, and International levels, Clubs have supported Service Projects where there have been needs of groups and individuals of all ages, in areas of Health Care, Education, Medical Research, Safety and Rehabilitation Programs; the list is endless.
There have been fellowship, friendship, and fun along the way, but, history has evolved because of a need for service.
