In 1982, the Helene Mackenzie and Past Governors of District 18 Trust Fund was established, trustees were appointed and guidelines set. The guidelines for the distribution of the funds were made wide in scope to accommodate current and future needs of individuals and/or organizations. A charitable number for income tax purposes was obtained. In 1989-1990 we gave $10,000.00 to the Canadian Hearing Society for the production of the signing videos in the Vista Program. The Quota Logo is at the end of each video. We have also in the past assisted Canadian students studying at Gallaudet College in Washington D.C., deaf seniors and youth, the provincial deaf camp, and Mayfair in Toronto. However in the past few years this fund has mostly concentrated on our Bursary program, donating up to five, one thousand dollar bursaries each year to students who are in their second year and up in the interpreter programs of accredited colleges. We do consider all requests we receive for financial help. Visit the following links to read the 2007 Fall News and learn about the bursary Winners, see the 2006, 2008 and 2009, 2010 bursary Winners or obtain a copy of the 2011-2012 Information/Application package for Interpreter Studies students.
This year the trustees of the HMTF have unanimously supported expanding our bursary program to include the intervenor program. Therefore we are offering a bursary to financially assist a Canadian and permanent resident to complete their studies as an Intervenor for deaf/blind persons.
