Infant Hearing Test

Quota International of Penticton celebrated with a Charity Presentation Event, on April 18, 2007 in Penticton. We are proud to announce that we have launched our long-awaited "Infant Hearing Testing Project" for the South Okanagan. Our lobbying, public education and fundraising efforts have spanned nine years to get this project approved and implemented thru the provincial government. Mary Bates, Director Public Health Prevention Services from Kelowna's Interior Health Authority, was in attendance to receive our initial funding of $35,000 in the photo above!! As OSNS Executive Director Judy Sentes noted, "This is very big news for our communities in the South Okanagan especially as the equipment will be located right in Penticton".

Donations were also presented to representatives of the following notable community charities:

OSNS Child Development Centre
South Okanagan Women in Need Society
Penticton & Area Women's Centre
Penticton & District Community Resources Society

This is wonderful news for families in the South Okanagan. Early infant hearing testing has proven to factor hugely in early detection and proper diagnosis for children, enabling them to achieve their best. A video entitled "A Parent's Guide to Infant Testing" helped explain the importance of early hearing screening. Local TV, radio stations and newspapers carried this story giving great exposure to this new project, with the equipment to be located in Penticton and testing expected to begin in Sept 07.

This is a milestone achievement which will impact all families of communities in the South Okanagan region. In total, donations in the amount of $52,540 were presented during the celebratory evening!
