Quota was established in 1919 in Buffalo, New York by a group of five female entrepreneurs spear-headed by Wanda Frey-Joiner. It was the first woman's service club not attached as an auxiliary to a men's club. Membership is now open to both men amd women. There are some 7,000 members world-wide in 14 different countries.
Quota International of Penticton is one of six clubs in western Canada, which make up District 11. We serve the South Okanagan and Similkameen communities locally, as well as our world service projects.
Quota means a share and our motto is 'We Share'. Our mandate is to assist speech and hearing-impaired persons, and disadvantaged women and children.
Our Mission is:
- To serve country and community;
- To promote high ethical standards;
- To emphasize the dignity of all useful occupations;
- To develop good fellowship and friendship; and
- To advance the ideals of righteousness, justice, international understanding, and good will.

What Quota looks like locally:
- Members come from a wide range of occupations. e.g. restauranteur, entrepreneurs, public servant, office workers, construction workers, and retirees
- Two evening meetings are held each month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday. Other evenings are for special events.
Governor Theresa Girardin recently visited the Club and while there initiated new member Kathy (top left) and installed the new Board (top right) for 2010-2011, Treasurer Maureen, Secretary Joy, Vice President Pam, and President Sue. A donation was made to District 11 in honour of her visit.

Past Canada Area Director Joy Pinney recently presented Club President Maureen Taylor with a Certificate of Appreciation and gold Quota pin in recognition of her 23 years of Quota service and she was named "Volunteer of the Year 2007". Maureen is the immediate Past Canada Area Director and served on the International Board of Directors as Canada's representative in 2004-2006. |
