A dinner "Celebrating Mothers" was held last May for Mothers Day at the Viscount Gort Hotel. The dinner was to help the "Clothes Closet" supplement their wardrobe choices for disadvantaged women who are returning to the workplace. The "Clothes Closet" is a non-profit venture providing women with a working wardrobe to start them on their new life. The manager of the project spoke to us of the great need and appreciation expressed by these women for this assistance. All who attended brought used, clean, good clothing, suitable for the workplace and we had a vanload of garments and accessories to donate to the "Clothes Closet". After dinner a delightful Bell Choir entertained us. We plan to hold this event again as it was so successful, but need to wait until we have more wardrobe items to spare.
We have held a Santa Party for several years for the little ones who can visit with Santa, have their picture taken, get a goodies bag and then join their parents for a light lunch, and visit the home baking, handicraft and draw tables. This is a fun event for both the members and those attending. |
Quota International of Winnipeg Fundraisers
Our fund raising events have been for many years our annual teas, garage sales, Santa Parties. The last spring tea was earmarked to buy a computer for a hearing impaired individual, and the last two Santa Parties have been earmarked to buy equipment for the Rehab Centre for Children of Manitoba.
To raise funds for club operating expenses we have a draw each meeting and the lucky recipient has to provide the draw item for the next meeting. Additionally, we have been holding "Candle Parties", with 20% of the order prices donated to the club by the representative. These parties work well in the fall when members are thinking of Xmas gifts and to renew their own stocks.
The club has a "Registered Trust Fund" which we promote at events and several hundred dollars are donated annually to this fund. A taxable receipt for income tax is provided to the donor. |
